On the weekend of November 23rd, my BBQ buddy and good friend, Gary, allowed me to cook on his BBQ team "Two Smoking White Boys" where we had the opportunity to cook in Big Papas Battle at BBQ Junction. This is a "Chopped" style BBQ Competition where 4 teams battle it out to be the best on a BBQ Competition Weekend.
There were two heats on Friday where two teams battled it out for a chance in the final then a second heat on Saturday where two teams battled it out for a spot in the final round in Ft. Pierce, Fl on Jan 10, 2014. This is how it works: the teams are given secret ingredients, as many as 50 different ingredients. All the ingredients do not have to be used but each team has to come up with a main entree, and appetizer, a side dish, and then a major dessert.
The teams of Big Papas Battle at BBQ Junction have A Big Green Egg to cook with, a PG 500 from CookShack, a Griller from Meadow Creek, and a Dutch Oven from Forrest Fine Foods.
There is an hour and fifteen minute time limit on each heat.
The final round features the two teams who made it to the finale. These two teams will have to battle with harder ingredients to cook with and the winners circle is harder to get to.
Big Papas Battle at BBQ Junction is like no other competition because its real BBQ Cooks who are currently competing that weekend. It gives the spectators something to watch. It gives the teams something to do after turn-ins. Big Papas Battle at BBQ Junction is a National Championship.
